The Village of Carol Stream has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and collaborative Civil Engineer with an interest in public service, to join our Engineering Services team in their commitment to building safe, sustainable, and innovative infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for our community
Reporting to the Senior Civil Engineer, the Civil Engineer will gain broad municipal experience while working on a variety of public projects from concept through construction, and play a vital role in support of the Department’s work in maintaining and improving the Village’s infrastructure. This will entail assisting with engineering design, project management, and construction oversight. Primary duties include Capital Improvement Planning, Development Review and Inspection, and Asset Management. Additionally, preparing cost estimates, plans, specifications, bids and contract documents for construction projects; providing technical guidance to staff and residents, and serving as a resource for enterprise software used in daily operations, such as Laserfiche, LAMA, OpenGov and GIS will be responsibilities of this role.
Ideal candidates will be problem-solvers with a strong foundation in civil engineering principles, possess strong communication skills, and thrive in a team-oriented, public serving environment. Additionally, qualified candidates must possess the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited engineering program.
- Must be a certified Engineer in Training with the ability to obtain registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois within 2 years.
- At least two (2) years of professional engineering design and project management experience, with prior experience within a municipal sector.
- A valid Illinois Vehicle Operator’s License.
- Must be available to work occasional evening and weekend hours when required.
